Made with several wood species, mahogany, walnut, rosewood, etc., the Bracket clock appeared in England in the 1670s as a clock placed on a harmonized wall bracket (shelf), hence its name. Over the years, the bracket clock became mostly a furniture clock. It was a medium-size clock in a box-type case with different styles of tops. Illustrated is a small bracket from F. W. Elliott Croydon of the 1970s with a handle on top to move it easily.
